My Special Bond with Pergola

My Special Bond with Pergola

Hi everyone, I'm Li Ming. Today, I'd like to share with you my story about pergola.

First Encounter with Pergola: Love at First Sight

I first laid eyes on a pergola during a trip abroad. It was a sunny afternoon, and I was strolling through a small European town. The streets were lined with colorful houses, and at a corner, a beautiful pergola caught my attention. It was supported by sturdy wooden columns, with a canopy covered in blooming wisteria. Strings of purple flowers hung down like a dreamy purple waterfall. Sunlight filtered through the gaps between the flowers, casting dappled patterns on the ground. In that moment, I felt as if I'd been enchanted. My feet stopped moving involuntarily, and I was completely captivated by this exquisite pergola. A thought popped into my head: How I wish I could have a pergola like this in my own yard!

Preparing for the Pergola: Turning Dreams into Reality with Effort

After returning from abroad, the image of that pergola kept lingering in my mind. I made up my mind to build one in my yard. So, I started gathering information about pergolas from various sources, learning about different materials, styles, and construction methods. I visited numerous building material markets, comparing the quality and prices of different types of wood. I also chatted with many experienced craftsmen to pick up tips on construction techniques.

During the preparation process, I encountered quite a few difficulties. For instance, when choosing the wood, I wanted high-quality material but was worried that it might exceed my budget. Moreover, when it came to designing the style of the pergola, my family and I had different opinions. I favored a romantic European style, while my family leaned towards a simple and practical one. However, after some communication and negotiation, we finally reached a consensus and settled on a design that not only met my aesthetic taste but also satisfied my family's needs.

Building the Pergola: A Process Filled with Sweat and Laughter

The day to build the pergola finally arrived. I invited a few friends over to help, and we all got down to work with great enthusiasm. First, we selected a suitable spot in the yard, then started digging holes and setting up the columns. This was no easy task. Each column had to be dug deep enough to ensure the stability of the pergola. My friends and I took turns wielding shovels, sweating profusely, but none of us complained about being tired.

Next came the installation of the beams and the top frame. This step required high precision. Even a slight deviation could affect the overall appearance and stability of the pergola. We measured and cut the wood carefully, then screwed them together. Along the way, we ran into some small problems, like the wood not being the right size and needing reprocessing. But instead of getting frustrated, we all actively looked for solutions.

Finally, it was time to plant the climbing plants. I chose roses and grapevines, imagining them twisting and growing up the pergola, blooming with beautiful flowers and bearing sweet fruits. As I planted each seedling around the pergola, my heart was filled with anticipation.

Enjoying the Pergola: Little Joys in Life

After several days of hard work, the pergola was finally completed. Looking at this masterpiece that embodied the efforts of my friends and me, I was over the moon. Since then, the pergola has become an indispensable part of my life.

In the mornings, I'd brew a cup of strong coffee and sit in a rocking chair under the pergola, savoring the fresh air and the warm sunshine while listening to the birds singing merrily in the branches. In the evenings, I'd have dinner with my family under the pergola, feeling the gentle breeze brushing against my face and sharing the ups and downs of the day. Sometimes, I'd invite friends over for a gathering. We'd drink and chat under the pergola, and the sound of laughter echoed throughout the yard.

Now, the roses on the pergola are in full bloom, and the grapevines have climbed all over the frame, forming a lush green屏障 (I'll keep it as "barrier" in English for natural flow, though the literal meaning is a bit lost). Whenever I see these beautiful sights, I'm reminded of the days when we built the pergola. All the sweat, laughter, and efforts have become the most precious memories in my life. I believe this pergola will always be by my side, witnessing every wonderful moment in my life.
